The Gift That Keeps on Giving

July 31st, 2008 · 1 Comment

I am so glad that despite having to turn himself in to authorities today, Republican Senator Ted Stevens has decided to continue to campaign for his senate seat. What arrogance.

Of course, everyone, even Ted, is innocent until proven guilty but the feds must have enough evidence to go forward and I would think the paper trail would be substantial.

Even some in the GOP are worried about Steven’s chances for re-election and whispering that he should not try to keep his seat. Make no mistake, the current position of the GOP is not an enviable one.

It would be nice if the two parties would work together to clean up politics, but really, how is that possible when both Dems and Republicans are knee deep in special interest money, quid pro quos and the like? Talk about the fox guarding the hen-house!

Stumble It!

Is this analogous to William Jefferson running for office while he was being investigated for diverting Katrina victim funding and stiking it into his freezer?

As I understand it, he is only currently being charged with failing to fill out government forms correctly. These would be Congressional forms required when a Congressperson receives a gift from someone. It is a Congressional disclosure form. That seems to be a couple steps less serious than William Jefferson, or am I overly protective of a “right-winger”?
