Sarah Palin is making quips about Joe Biden’s age? That’s rich.
She’s incredibly sarcastic at times and I don’t recall Obama or Biden being so condescending towards her, unless I missed it. And yes, supporters on both sides can be harsh and down-right nasty at times, but how the candidates characterize their opponents is interesting.
Biden sometimes shoots off at the mouth, he’s famous for it, but I think he has been very respectful towards Palin- some on the right say he made a sexist quip about her looks, but the way I interpreted it (and the way most others did) he was being self-deprecating with respect to his looks.
Stumble It!

Your “filter” blocks posts with more than three links, so I have to respond in serial format.
That is a real “reach” to draw a supposed “slur” on Biden’s age. Heaven knows both Obama and Biden have made allusions to McCain’s age.
How about Obama’s characterization of Palin as a “Governor, mother, and moose-shooter?
http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2008/09/obama-on-palin.html
Or their frequent mention of her as a “small-town mayor with a population less than…….”

or a “Small-state Governor with a population less than…..”?

Or how about when Biden takes a cheap shot at Palin about her Down’s Syndrome child?

Both Palin and McCain support stem cell research, so this was really below the belt.
Or how about When Biden calls her a “Lt. Governor”?

Is this part of demeaning her because the population is small in Alaska?

And how is Palin “a backward step for women”?
http://beldar.blogs.com/beldarblog/2008/09/biden-says-elec.html
She is the Governor of a rural, male-dominated, western state that supposedly treats women as “second-class”. Palin was a break in such stereotypes. You may not like some of her personal beliefs, but she is a “trailblazer” for the advancement and acceptance of women at higher echelons of government.
Even Joe Biden criticizes the ad that was issued with Obama’s approval.

The attacks like these are so “nasty”, that the Obama-Biden team try to disguise them:

We don’t even have to get into the “lipstick on a pig”, or the “Pontius Pilot was a governor” alleged smears to point out the sleazy tactics of the Obama-Biden team.
And the Obama-Biden attacks pale beside the attacks by their surrogates:

And late-night comedy focuses on Palin much more than Biden, or Obama (jokes are 4:1 against McCain-Palin over Obama-Biden).
So you can claim Sarah is “mean”, and that Obama-Biden have been “considerate”, but that is a claim, not reality.

Just as an aside, you might note the issue of “demogogue”. The left has spent much capital in trying to demonize Bush, Cheney, and the Administration. The have done the same with this “bailout” (simply by labelling it a “bailout” and saying it is to save “rich Bush supporters”. That characterization has served to kill this market stabilization legislation). But all this “over-the-top” effort to demonize everyting Republican has an effect on the public. First to undermine the faith in government (note the approval rating of Congress is in the single digits) and the animosity some have built towards our leadership:
http://www.breitbart.tv/?p=184863
The left/Demos have managed to increase their power and influence in politics in our nation through this technique, but has it been a disservice to the nation at large? I would suggest it has hurt our nation more than anything. Partisanship (and it has been present on both sides) has hurt our ability to achieve compromise and make progress in America. That will continue to impair us all in the future. It will limit what Obama or McCain can do to refomr government.
I lay most of this at the feet of Democrats. That may seem unfair to some degree, but I think they bear most of the responsibility. I would point to Nancy Pelosi’s speech on the House floor immediately before the vote on the “bailout”. She was unable to resist a highly partisan rant against Republicans and Bush despite a need for the House pass the legislation. Whether that “killed the bill” or not may be debatable, but it certainly was not helpful, and it offended many on the right. It was clearly partisan. And it was unnecessary and unwelcome at this critical juncture.
You can’t go out and insult a competitor to such a degree, and then ask them for a loan to pay your rent. That is essentailly what the Speaker did. Now we face a delay, and possible additional anxiety over an economic crisis that is affecting us and the world at large. And it was NEEDLESS. At a time when we need unity and cooperation, she chose animosity and rancor. And that is echoed in the public at large. It divides us. It harms us.
That is a major reason why I support McCain. He is a centrist where Obama is not. McCain has shown that he can compromise and has “reached across the aisle” on numerous occasions. Obama has never shown that ability, and neither has Biden. Obama-Biden PROMISE to act in such a manner, but they simply haven’t ever done it, and I tend to trust patterns of behavior more than promises to the contrary.

Biden is now doing a “Hillary”. Calims he was “shot at” while in Iraq. Points to this as proof that the surge has failed:

The pontius pilate thing was totally inappropriate, which I have already previously said but that wasn’t a statement from Obama or Biden it was a Congressional democrat- it doesn’t make it any less stupid or outrageou, but keep in mind supporters on both sides have said some outrageous, condescending and outright nasty things and it is dishonest to attribute all those things to the candidates themselves, McCain or Obama. w
I don’t think the “lipstick on a pig comment” was meant to infer Palin was a pig but I know you do so there is no point going back and forth about it.
I actually forgot about Bidens statement about Palin not caring for kids with Downs Syndrome- thanks for reminding me- but if you remember, I devoted a whole post to harshly criticizing him for it. Because unlike you, I am willing to admit when Obama, Biden or the dems in general are acting like a bunch of asses.
I wish both sides would be respectful and act a bit more dignified because that is it’s own type of leadership, but generally, that’s not how politics is.

You say, “unlike you.” But you have seen me criticize Republicans, including McCain and Bush, here on your site.
Why do you always insist on thinking I don’t face reality? I know both sides are guilty of many of the same things. And I have been critical at times, when I think its warranted. I don’t think its warranted as often as you, but we play reverse roles with Dems, because we both have mirrored political biases.
Like you feel about the the “lipstick on a pig” remark, I think Palin’s remark was not an “age” quip designed to demean Biden. But we both know that Obama has made age quips to demean McCain.
