General Motors’ Invisible Jets

November 28th, 2008 · 3 Comments

gm.jpegIf the auto-industry titan is hoping to win the top spot on the “Top 5 Corporations We Hate Most” list then I suggest they continue doing everything they are currently doing…and then some.

GM has now filed with the FAA to block the public from having access to the flight records (destination, etc.) of it’s corporate jets. Hmmmm….I wonder why? It couldn’t have anything to do with that fiasco of a performance they gave last week when they took time off from their busy schedule building huge, gas-guzzling, poorly-made, almost obsolete trucks, and went to Washington with hat-in-hand to beg for our hard-earned tax dollars in the form of a “bail-out”? But luckily, instead of walking away with billions, the auto industry CEOs were taken to the wood-shed by angry members of Congress for having flown in to testify in their corporate jets. I’m sure the FAA black-out request has nothing to do with that, right?

Maybe GM doesn’t want the flight records of their cushy private jets made public because they are concerned that one of the millions of angry taxpayers and/or laid-off employees might shoot it down? Wouldn’t you love to be a juror at that trial? “I’m sorry your honor, what private jet? I didn’t see any missile. I don’t know what happened to it, I thought maybe it was one of those invisible jets, you know, like Wonder Woman had…one minute it was there, the next minute it wasn’t. Really.” Not guilty.

Either way, GM has become one of the most unsympathetic financial failures in decades.

Stumble It!

The irony is, they will get as much bad press for trying to hide their use of the leased jets as they did for flying them to DC.

Obama is right, the automakers are “tone deaf”

Do you drive a car? Then shut the fuck up.

Actually, the trucks are quite fine products, they are just heavy guzzlers of gas. They make a good product, not bad ones. They are slow to innovate, and they are “tone deaf” to the public much of the time, but their engineers are3 quite good.

You missed the really good part. GM probably wants to hide the jet records because of where else they have gone. They just don’t fly into DC. They fly to many more pleasant climates for them and their executives and friends. This isn’t an effort to hide the flight to DC (we already know about that). This is to hide flights to the Bahamas and Mexico for junkets, often with politicians. Toyota and BMW do it too, but they aren’t on the hot-seat.

The real kicker is that it is the Dems who are seeking to bail out GM and the rest. The Reps would let them file for bankruptcy. And they should file and not ask for taxpayer money. I think Pelosi and Reid will give them about $10 bil apiece, however.

And how about Charlie Rangel and his “Oil loophole”?

Its not just Reps who are friends with CEOs and do them favors. Its Dems. And they are now set to cash in big! This is “change” like we knew it would happen!
