This is just wrong on so many levels.
Why can’t the government just stay out of the promoting religion business and just for once, try not to cynically use religion as a political prop?
UPDATE: Today’s NYT (sub. req) has an interesting article/commentary about government funding of religious groups, charities etc. and is worth a [...]

For Tibet, Time Is Running Out
February 28th, 2009 · 5 Comments
The Dalai Lama, Tibetan Buddhist spiritual leader and Nobel Peace Prize winner, is almost universally revered as an advocate for peace, compassion and unity and he is turning 74 this July.
Why does this matter? Becaues he has long been considered one of the only people capable of keeping Tibet from turning away [...]

Washington Is Still Washington…
February 28th, 2009 · 3 Comments
…and the powerful elites still jealously guard and take care of their own. This painfully obvious fact is already rearing it’s ugly head just one month into President Obama’s first term in office and while reasonable people can differ as to how to truly “change Washington”, or whether it’s even possible at all, there [...]

Bobby Jindal’s Ears Must Be Ringing…CONSTANTLY
February 27th, 2009 · 7 Comments
In a rare show of unity, both conservatives and progressives agree that Gov. Bobby Jindal’s response to President Obama’s speech, was a disaster. While I don’t envy anyone who was in the position of having to come after Obama’s perfectly executed and largely well-received speech, it was certainly a great opportunity for Jindal to [...]

About Last Night- Was it good for you?
February 25th, 2009 · 4 Comments
I have to say, Obama’s speech was much better than I expected and there is no doubt he is an excellent communicator, which of course is an asset to any political leader- think FDR, Reagan, even Bill Clinton. Of course, words without action are meaningless, so at some point, he’s going to have to [...]

Interesting…
February 24th, 2009 · 2 Comments
I find this interesting, particularly given Secretary of State Clinton’s dismissive remarks about human rights while she was in China last week. One really can’t talk about Darfur without also talking about China, particularly given the major oil companies in Sudan are largely Chinese companies. So I am not sure how to reconcile [...]

John McCain Is Angry, Dammit!
February 24th, 2009 · 2 Comments
John McCain was angry during President Obama’s fiscal responsibility Q&A session yesterday. In particular, McCain is outraged, outraged, that Obama’s Marine I helicopter is due for expensive, fancy upgrades (if not altogether new ones) and he wants us to know this is essentially emblematic of everything that is wrong in Washington DC.
I [...]

More Dumb Cartoons From the Same Guy
February 22nd, 2009 · 5 Comments
Last week I wrote briefly about the NY Post cartoon which has been widely decried as violent and racist, among other things. I don’t agree that the NY Post should fire the cartoonist, hereafter referred to as “Same Guy” because I don’t want to give him too much personal attention or publicity via Google, [...]
R.I.P Socks
February 22nd, 2009 · 4 Comments
19 year-old Socks the cat died Friday after battling thyroid cancer and kidney problems. For those who don’t remember, Socks was a resident of the White House during the Clinton years and by all accounts, he was the friendliest member of the family. Then the Clintons got ‘Buddy’ the dog and when the [...]
